This short video was made in 2016 as a simple but elegant explanation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disability. We cast people with disability in all roles and used voice over to relate the rights in simple understandable language. Text on screen eliminates the need for captions.
Women with Disabilities Victoria
In 2018 we assisted Women with Disabilities by creating a video resource called Our Right to Safety and Respect. The video emphasises that violence and abuse against women with disabilities is never ok. Women with Disabilities explain how they have escaped abusive situations and made themselves safe again. This project was delivered with captions, audio description and Auslan.
In 2018 we created a series of videos about disability advocacy for the Disability Advocacy Resource Unit for an online course. Here advocates share the work they do supporting people with disability to uphold their rights
Empowered Lives Campaign
In 2019 the Victorian Council of Social Service (VCOSS) engaged us to produce a series of 4 short videos for their Empowered Lives campaign. The videos are about accessible public transport, parenting with a disability and access to education.
Defiant Lives is a feature documentary about the rise and fight of the disability rights movement. It premiered at the Sydney Film Festival in 2017 and also screened at the United Nations in New York. it was a finalist in the 2018 ATOM Awards. The Victorian Disability Services Commissioner wanted to create a series of videos about their Safe and Respectful Cultures Research. A number of community researchers had been involved in the research and we wanted to participate equally in the video reporting. We used the device of a shared lunch that enabled everyone to speak about their experiences and their contributions to the research in an elegant equitable environment. These videos were delivered with captions and Auslan.
In 2018 the Future Social Services Institute in association with VCOSS and RMIT invited Fertile Films to produce 24 videos for their new certificate in Disability and Aged Care Support. We used a number of different formats to deliver such a large number of videos covering work in a range of disability and aged care settings. The project will be officially launched later in 2019.
