History

Fertile Films was established by Sarah Barton and Academy Award winner Eva Orner in 1993. Their first film was Untold Desires – written and directed by Sarah Barton (then Sarah Stephens) and produced by Eva Orner. Untold Desires is a landmark documentary that opens the door on sexuality and disability. The film won numerous awards including and AFI Award, an International Human Rights Award and the first ever Logie Award for SBS television.

Fertile Films’ second documentary Secret Fear was made in 1997 again with Sarah writing and directing and Eva producing. In this documentary we hear first hand what life is like living with an anxiety disorder or obsessive compulsive disorder.

After this film Eva left Fertile Films to work on other projects, later moving to the United States and in 2008 she won the Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary for Taxi to the Dark Side with Alex Gibney.

Sarah Barton is now the sole proprietor of Fertile Films.
